When equity crowding and FX hedges tell the same story

Committees often separate equity risk from currency overlays as if they were independent conversations. In practice, the same sentiment wave can lean into both.

A familiar pattern

When “quality” or “AI winners” dominate equity narratives, certain currencies and carry structures start to rhyme with that optimism. A book that trimmed single-name concentration can still carry the same story through the hedge sleeve.

What we look for in a review

In a Cross-Asset Sentiment Review we ask whether the FX overlay is hedging risk or amplifying the equity narrative. Positioning gauges and options market lean often reveal the rhyme earlier than attribution reports do.

A practical check

Before the next rebalance, list the three stories your equity sleeve is most exposed to, then ask whether any hedge or liquid alternative is long the same story under another name. If the answer is yes, size and sequencing deserve a second pass — not necessarily a full exit.
