Credit narratives and the quiet corners of positioning
Credit spreads can stay calm while equity narratives run hot — then catch up abruptly. That lag is a recurring theme in our Cross-Asset Sentiment Reviews.
What “quiet” can mean
Low realised volatility in credit does not always mean light positioning. It can mean a crowded preference for carry that has not yet been tested by a growth scare or a refinancing wave.
How we phrase it for committees
We avoid theatrical language. The memo states whether credit sentiment appears to be borrowing equity optimism, how concentrated the lean looks, and which watch-list signals would argue for a second look before adding risk.
A mild caution
Sentiment reviews do not replace issuer work. They tell you how the crowd is leaning around the sleeve you already own.
